To open the iPod, insert the flat head of the included non-scratching plastic tool in the crevice of the iPod' s case at the point where the fast forward button lines up with the seam. This is the point at which you need to begin to pry open the case. Some force is required to insert the flat head into the crevice of the iPod's case.
Once the flat head is in the crevice, push forward on the handle gently inserting the flat head separating the silver portion of the case and the white plastic portion. Work the flat end of the plastic tool back and forth against the seem working your way up to the top of the iPod, releasing the clips that secure the iPod as you go up the seam.
Once you have completely unclipped all of the clips securing the silver and white portions of the iPod case, you will be able to open the iPod revealing the hard drive. The silver portion of the case will still be attached by a ribbon cable to the white portion of the case. Carefully place the silver portion to the side of the case using care not to damage the ribbon cable or the hard drive.
