Step 1

Using the included non-scratching plastic tool, begin to pry open the 1st or 2nd generation iPod's case starting with the top corner. Some force is required to insert the flat end into the crevice of the iPod's case.

Step 2

With the flat head of the included non-scratching plastic tool wedged in the crevice of the iPod case, carefully move the flat tip down towards the bottom of the case unclipping the case clips as you go. Move the tool up and down as you move down the side of the case to help to release the clips.

Step 3

Work the head of the included plastic tool all the way around the crevice of the iPod case. Remove the metal back of the case when the clips are unlatched, which will allow access to the battery. Move the black flaps that are over the battery to the side to access the battery freely.

Step 4

Insert the tip of the included plastic tool under the battery and carefully pry the original iPod battery off of the internal hard drive. The battery is attached by glue and may require some force to remove. After the battery is detached from the hard drive, the battery will only be attached by its power cord. Pay attention to the orientation of the original battery to ensure the new battery is placed correctly (power cord on the same side as the connector). A rubber piece in between the hard drive and the battery may be detached. Reapply it to the iPod in its original position.

Step 5

Carefully remove the original battery's power connector from its socket, then completely remove the original battery from the iPod. Dispose of the original battery properly. Insert the new UltraLast battery's connector into the socket. Use the included plastic tools to push the battery's wires into the small slot. Place the new UltraLast battery in the same position as the original battery. Push the black flaps down on top of the new battery and snap the metal portion of the case back into place. Charge the new battery for a minimum of three hours before use.
